My Rating (out of 5)
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wherever She Goes is a  fast paced, high action read.

Aubrey Finch has witnessed a child being abducted; She calls the police to make a report , but when no missing child report is filed Aubrey is disregarded as unstable. After all, "Few crimes are reported as quickly as a snatched kid". People whisper and gossip about Aubrey.; after all what kind of woman goes from being a stay at home mom in a nice bedroom community to walking away from it all and becoming the non-custodial parent living in a crummy apartment?  There must be something wrong with her.

Knowing that the police are not looking for the little boy who was taken, Aubrey sees no real choice but to help him herself.  Before long she is making progress in tracking down the little boy, but the situation soon sees her carefully hidden secrets threatened with exposure, and more importantly her own daughter in danger.  Can she risk her whole world to save a little boy she doesn't know? Can she live with herself if she drops it and the boy is never saved?

The story was good, fast paced, and enjoyable. Armstrong created a fresh spin on the tried and true kidnapping scenario, and made it fresh. There were some twists of course, but none of those "totally out of left field, knock me off my chair" types. That is not to say it was lacking in any way, just that for me it was more of an action thriller/amateur detective type of thriller than a twisty psychological one. I was hooked right from the beginning, and I enjoyed the ride right until the end: and that is exactly what you want in a book; isn't it?

Narration was provided by Therese Plummer, who performed with a clear, pleasant voice, good cadence and tone, as well as good range of character and emotion.

K. L. Armstrong has taken the kidnapped child trope, breathed new life into it, and created a highly enjoyable thriller.

Happy Reading,
Christine
