Today marks what would have been Hans Christian Andersen's birthday.
Born in Denmark in 1805 Andersen died August 4th 1875.
Anderson well over 3,000 fairy tales which were translated into 125 different languages. His most popular titles include:
The Princess and the Pea,
The Little Mermaid,
The Ugly Duckling,
The Emperor's New Clothes,
The Little Match Girl,
Thumbelina, and
The Snow Queen.
Andersen's Tales have become part of the collective consciousness of generations past and present. Many of his works are still being told and retold in new, updated, and exciting ways today. The fact that his tales are still common today is tribute and testament to the wonderful imagination and his skill as a writer.
