⭐⭐⭐1/2

A good thriller.

Seventeen year old Mindy Wright is a skiing phenom.  Well known and respected in the skiing community, she is poised to lead the U.S. Olympic team. But bad luck strikes and Mindy suffers a terrible spill on the slope, badly breaking her leg. That is just where her bad luck begins though. While in hospital for her broken leg, Mindy receives a devastating diagnosis - leukemia. Her leukemia is a very rare and aggressive form, and she quickly deteriorates. Her only hope of survival is a stem cell transplant. With her and her family already overwhelmed by the accident and the leukemia diagnosis,  it is then discovered that she is not genetically related to her parents.  How did this happen?  Was it merely a mistake or something more sinister? Can they find her birth parents in time to save Mindy's life?

This story starts out a little slow, but picks up pace before too long, so I really wouldn't hold it against the book.  Sometimes a slow start allows the reader to become familiar with the characters and circumstances of the story.  In this case it worked, and I enjoyed the story more for it.

I was able to figure out the "who" of the story fairly early - so some loss of star-points there (I love a good blind-side where I "know" it is one person, but it turns out to be another), but at the same time, I wanted to understand the "why" of it all. Details were teased out of the story and presented to the reader in small portions. Since I was still engaged in the story, there was a minimal deduction of star-points.

Audiobook narration was very good thanks to a cast of narrators, resulting in an easy and enjoyable listen where following along with character changes was easy.

Happy Reading,

Christine
